Frequent explosions lead to the old problem of "overdue service" of beer bottles

[China Glass Network] As the weather gets hotter and the popularity of “strings”, beer begins to enter the peak season of consumption. Many consumers tend to pay attention only to the shelf life of beer when purchasing beer, while ignoring the shelf life of beer bottles.

In fact, according to the relevant regulations of the country, the recommended period of use of beer bottles is two years. However, the problem of "overdue service" of beer bottles is more common, especially in the case of small shops. In recent years, incidents of beer bottle explosions have also occurred frequently.

Frequent beer bottle explosions

In recent years, there have been beer bottle explosions in many places in China, and only a few similar incidents have been seen in the media this year, and some have caused great harm to the body of consumers.

It is understood that the "Beer Bottle Standard GB4544-1996" issued in 1996 requires manufacturers to have a beer bottle special mark "B" within 20mm above the bottom of the bottle, indicating the year of production, and recommended that the beer bottle recycling period be two year.

Why is the beer bottle “overdue service” easy to explode?

Zhou Zhiwu, secretary-general of the China Building Glass and Industrial Glass Association, said that the main component of glass is silica, although the long-term does not change the chemical composition of the glass, but the beer bottles are repeatedly used, due to scratches, scratches and sun exposure. For other reasons, the ability to withstand pressure will be reduced. In general, after 5 consecutive uses, the strength of the bottle will be reduced by half, and it is easy to explode.

To this end, many experts have called on the relevant departments to change the “recommended period of use for two years” to “the period of use must not exceed two years”.

“older” beer bottles exist in large quantities

Despite the safety risks of the “overdue service” beer bottles, the reporter recently visited more than 10 supermarkets, community shops and catering stores in Beijing and found that “older” beer bottles existed in large numbers, but shops and consumers paid little attention to this problem. .

A beer bottle produced in 2010 was found in a small community store, and the label indicates that the beer was produced in June 2017.

The owner of a community store said that he did not pay attention to the bottle and the date of manufacture. I have heard about the use of beer bottles in the country, and I don’t know the specific content. Moreover, consumers will not pay attention to the date of beer bottles, and consumers have never returned because of the "old age" of beer bottles.

So why do some wineries like to use "older" bottles? According to industry insiders, beer bottle recycling and cleaning are carried out in batches, and too many quantities cannot be sorted one by one. After the packaging and sales links, it is impossible to separate human and material resources. Since the two-year use period is not a mandatory standard, the manufacturer will directly eliminate the beer bottles that do not meet the quality requirements, and the qualified ones will continue to be used. In this way, the winery can save a lot of money in one year.

Strengthening quality management is the general direction

It is understood that the original intention of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine in 1996 to introduce the "Beer Bottle Standard GB4544-1996" is to solve the "burst bottle injury" problem.

In 2002, the National Standards Committee included the beer bottle standard into the revised plan. But as a result, the "wine" and "bottle" industries have also fallen into an endless debate. The party to the dispute is the beer industry. It is hoped that the beer bottles will be durable and recyclable for safety and cost reduction. The other side of the debate is the daily-use glass industry, which hopes to promote lightweight, disposable beer bottles and reduce recycling. The strength is weakened while the bottle order is stabilized. The two lead industries that have been revised by the standards stand in their respective positions and leave the standards on hold for many years.

The industry generally believes that the quality management of recycled beer bottles is definitely a big direction. He Yong, secretary general of the Brewing Branch of China Brewing Industry Association, said that at many industry conferences, he called for the brewery to establish a perfect beer bottle inspection system. In addition to the batch inspection of new bottles entering the factory, it should also be sampled on the production line. Use the recycling bottle to fully understand the quality of the used beer bottles.
