Liaoning "Agate Jewelry Grading" local standards passed the examination and approval by experts

Recently, the Fuxin Municipal Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision was entrusted by the Liaoning Provincial Bureau to develop and finalize the "Agate Jewelry Grading Standards." This initiative was supported by the Fuxin Agate Association, the Fuxin Standardization Association, and renowned Chinese jade carvers. The standards were officially approved by a panel of experts, filling a critical gap in provincial agate jewelry regulations. Fuxin is known as one of China's primary agate production regions, with more than half of the country’s total reserves. The high-quality agate from this area has significant ornamental and economic value. In recent years, its popularity in the market has grown, but the absence of clear quality grading standards has led to inconsistencies in processing, sales, and product quality. This lack of uniformity has affected market confidence and pricing. To address these issues, the Fuxin Municipal Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision collaborated with local authorities and organizations to draft the "Agate Jewelry Grading" standard. The goal was to establish authoritative industry guidelines for agate processing, evaluation, auctioning, and trading, ultimately contributing to the development of Liaoning Province's local standards. The new standard builds upon existing regulations such as "Gemstone and Jade Naming," "Jewelry and Jade Appraisal," and "Gold Metal Jewelry Terminology." It includes over ten key quality indicators, including terminology definitions, chemical composition, crystalline structure, Mohs hardness, density, refractive index, absorption spectrum, and special optical effects. Based on factors like color, transparency, texture, clarity, and craftsmanship, the standard categorizes agate jewelry into multiple levels. For example, color is divided into five grades—S1 (highest) to S5 (lowest). Transparency is classified into three levels: translucent, semi-transparent, and opaque. Texture is graded into four categories—Z1 (best) to Z4 (lowest). Clarity is divided into four levels: extremely pure, pure, semi-pure, and less pure. Lastly, craftsmanship is categorized into two levels: excellent and qualified. Industry experts believe that the implementation of these local standards will provide strong technical support for quality management, grading, and inspection of agate products. It will help regulate the agate market, promote brand development, and protect both consumer and business interests. This move is expected to boost the overall credibility and sustainability of the agate industry in Liaoning.
