"Malay jade, Ma Yu" - quartzite jade

"Malay jade, Ma Yu" - Quartzite jade is a kind of dyed quartzite used to pretend to be jade. Often with its rich emerald green, delicate texture and good transparency, people mistakenly think it is high-grade jade. And because it uses a chromium-free organic dye, it is not difficult to find the characteristics of its granular structure and the distribution of green dye along the edge of the particle. Ma Yu’s green will become less beautiful after a few years.

Malay jade is also called Malaysian jade, Lu Songyu and so on. It is a kind of artificial imitation jadeite product. The main mineral is quartz, which is made by adding a coloring agent to pure quartz or quartz crystal. The hardness is 6.5~7, the specific gravity is 2.65, and the refractive index is 154. It was popular in 1988 in Thailand, Myanmar and the Yunnan border. At the beginning, many people were deceived, and some people squandered for Malay. The sales were good. In the middle and late period, the unscrupulous merchants called the green quartzite, the Australian jade, the Dongling jade and the green glass all known as Malay jade. It can be accurately judged with the naked eye.

The difference between "Malay jade" and jade:

1. Visually, the color of Malaysian jade is too bright and very unnatural.

2. The proportion of Malaysian jade is 2.65, which is much smaller than the proportion of jadeite 3.33.

3. The average refractive index of Malaysian jade is 1.55, which is lower than that of jadeite.

4. The color does not turn red under the Charles filter, but the presence of the dye can be observed under the ten-fold microscope, that is, the color is very floating and is a staining phenomenon.
