How to identify defects on textile fabrics

In the production process of spinning, weaving and dyeing, textile fabrics, due to various factors, cause various defects that damage the appearance quality of the fabrics, which are called the appearance defects of the fabrics.

The defects can be divided into local defects and scattered defects. The appearance of a partial appearance on a piece of fabric becomes a localized appearance; the spread area is widely known as a dispersal appearance defect.

The slight flaws in the fabric will only affect the appearance of the fabric, but the serious defects not only affect the appearance, but also damage the local strength and wear resistance of the fabric, reduce the durability of the fabric, affecting the performance. Therefore, if fabrics are found to have defects, they must be avoided as much as possible during the cutting process. If they cannot be avoided, they should be arranged in concealed areas or parts that are not easily rubbed or stretched to ensure the appearance and quality of the clothing.

There are many types of defects, and the causes and appearance characteristics are different. You can refer to the following table for identification.

Defective name

Defective appearance characteristics
Breakout
Missing one or several warp yarns in the fabric
Shen Shen
The individual warp yarns on the front or back side of the fabric are detached from the tissue, and there is a considerable distance that is not interwoven with the weft yarns.
Jump flowers
Three or more warps or wefts are separated from each other and form regular or irregular defects
Plain side
The internal warp and the weft yarns are broken or single broken
cobweb
In cotton fiber fabrics, warp and weft yarns are separated from one another by more than 16
Holes
The warp and weft breaks and creates a hole in the fabric
Roving
Including rough warp and coarse weft, which means that several or dozen warp yarns or wefts that are thicker than the yarn itself are present on the fabric
Slub yarn
A number of slub yarns were irregularly walked on the fabric to a depth of 20-30cm.
Large belly yarn
Including twist yarn, bring yarn, back silk, and hair back into the core
Double weft
Two wefts are woven into one shed at the same time, or the yarn breaks at the edge of the fabric and is brought into the fabric
Tight yarn
A fairly long piece of yarn is more beaten than it is, making it appear irregularly thick on the plane.
Difficulties
The uneven thickness of the warp and weft yarns results in an irregular coarse yarn section on a large area of fabric
Thinning, thin weft, thin section
In the transverse direction of the fabric, only the warp yarns and no weft yarns become voids, which are said to be thin; the weft yarns are arranged unevenly, and in the cotton fiber fabrics, the longitudinal directions thereof
Within 3cm in length, said thin weft; more than 3cm, thin section
Secret road, thick section
The weft of the fabric forms a tight transverse streak. The length of the warp in the cotton fiber fabric is less than 3cm. It is called the secret road; more than 3cm,
Thick section
Bian
Broken edges, uneven edges or flounced edges
Neps
In cotton fiber fabrics, the surface of the grey fabric is impregnated with cottonseed, fly, wire, brown hair, and nep.
Stains
On the surface of the fabric, dark and light marks of various sizes are present on the surface of the fabric and are classified into oil spots, rust spots, stains, water spots, stains, etc. according to the causes of the formation.
Color bars
Stretching along the meridian stretches short and thick colors
Crosspiece
The depth and breadth of the stretch in the zonal direction
Weft
The weft jumps more than three from the shuttle
Hundred feet
When twill fabrics are weaved, the tissue is destroyed and long hops appear along the weft.
Crease
When weaving a grey cloth , weaving the weft part of the weft yarn is removed, and after re-weaving, the cloth is left behind with a marked velvet trail.
Rolling
The shuttle did not operate normally. It was caught in the middle of the beating and some of the yarn was damaged or broken, forming a diamond-like void.
Damage
When repairing a cloth surface with an iron comb tool, the fabric yarn is damaged due to improper operation.
Misplaced
Weft yarn special number wrong
Matsumoto
The warp yarn relaxes like a bow or cymbal
Road
Improper use of nicknames and quality problems, causing warp yarns to be arranged unevenly and appearing stripes
Wear it wrong
The meridian stripes caused by the wrong molars
Narrow
Width less than required
Twill reverse
Oblique lines and regulations
Pattern does not match
Color misalignment, or wrong weft yarns, so that the finished pattern does not match the design
Color difference
Color does not match the standard color. The color of the two ends of a fabric is inconsistent, and there is a difference in the width of the fabric. The dyeing is uneven.
Color bars
Lines, strips, or broad strips along the longitude of the eye, including stripes caused by wrinkles, oil warps, dragging yarns, dirty yarns
stripe
The fabric stretches or intermittently spreads all shades of light
Streak
Different color shades of the fabric, forming a lateral color difference
Pattern does not match
Printed fabrics have different patterns and designs, including inaccurate patterns, misprints, missed marks, exposed bottoms, and deformations.
Shallow depth
The surface of the printed fabric is dotted with a lot of dark and light colors. It is more obvious on light-colored fabrics
Skew
Stenosis of printed patterns or ruled lines on printed fabrics
Printing bias
Fabric patterns vary in shades of color
Drag slurry
Irregular bands or blocks of non-patterned color on the fabric
Color flower
The yarn dyeing is uneven, after the finished product forms a spotted, the fabric has a dark color
Staining
After the dyeing of the yarn, the skin color is not washed cleanly or the dye is not good, so that the white yarn or the light-colored yarn adjacent to the colored yarn is contaminated so that the surface
The surface of the material appears halo-like or the boundaries are not clear
